The Beach / August 31 / Tuesday, Early Morning
It turned out Azula didn't need to drag Momoko by the scruff of her collar, Momoko dragged her feet and muttered under her breath but Momoko followed along. Still, it was tempting to do so but Azula refrained.

"Start stretching," she ordered Momoko when they reached Azula's favorite part of the beach. This time the beach was not empty. In the middle of the stretch of sand was a drum filled with water balloons.

Azula retrieved a water balloon and smiled.

(For heromaniac, continuing from here.)

Well, it was TUESDAY! And she still hated training, even if she'd asked for it and knew she needed it and she was still not used to the early hour and was probably going to miss breakfast and maybe even be late to her totally cool spaceship class...

"I can't wait until I can do this and we can stop training so early," Momoko grumped. She was curious about the drum but it didn't even cross her mind that it had anything to do with training, so she set about stretching as ordered. "What are we doing today; more forms?"

If they were sparring, she was totally going to have to stop at the clinic for more pain patches before class.

Azula didn't comment only bounced the water balloon a little, waiting for Momoko to be done.

"Are you finished?" No sooner had she asked when the balloon went flying from Azula's hand and straight for Momoko's head.

"Waaaaah!" Momoko luckily had looked up to reply and saw the balloon heading straight for her. Only she didn't know what it was, so she swept her foot back and turned so that it flew past her. "Azula! What was that for? You almost hit me!"

Azula smiled approvingly at the dodge. "Oh, did I?" And there it was again, this time, faster, aiming for Momoko's chest.
Momoko Akatsutsumi: ooookayheromaniac on September 3rd, 2010 03:53 am (UTC)
"Augh!" Momoko tried to sidestep again, this time adding an attempt to block the object with her hands. But, of course, this time she failed and was splattered with water for her efforts. "Water balloons?"
Princess Azula of the Fire Nation: glory in fireazuldragon on September 3rd, 2010 09:34 am (UTC)
"Yes." And that was the only thing Azula would say after that the water balloons came at Momoko in succession. Each one faster than before with one goal: catch Momoko off guard and get her very wet.
Momoko Akatsutsumi: ooookayheromaniac on September 4th, 2010 05:19 am (UTC)
"Augh!" Momoko repeated, doing her best to dodge or deflect as many as she could (which wasn't many and probably more by luck than anything else). After the fourth or fifth balloon got through, though, she seemed to get worse with her form and soon was soaked.

"Azula? What is this helping with?"
Princess Azula of the Fire Nationazuldragon on September 4th, 2010 06:20 pm (UTC)
"Speed. Endurance and, hopefully, the desire to remain dry would provoke you to be better. "Keep your arms up. Flow into the motion."

This time the balloons were aimed for Momoko's face. "Faster, Momoko!"
Momoko Akatsutsumi: oh maaanheromaniac on September 5th, 2010 01:30 am (UTC)
She took the first one directly in the face and barely managed to duck the next.

Flow into the motion. What did that even mean?!

Another balloon and she raised her hand to block; accidentally deflecting with her palm. "Ah!" Since it worked, she tried it on purpose the next time: almost catch it, but push it down and away. Maybe it wasn't perfect form, but it kept her dry!

The next water balloons went for her shoulder, her legs really, each time varying in speed.

"Faster, Momoko."

Next time Momoko will learn not to skip a lesson.

Or to move the dresser in front of the door next time.

Momoko did indeed move faster, dodging and shifting her weight as much as possible to stay out of the way of those balloons. So much for keeping her form! "Aaah! Not fair! I just figured out the face ones!" She had trouble with keeping her legs and feet dry, though. She couldn't figure out how to deflect those.
Princess Azula of the Fire Nation: smiling is still suspiciousazuldragon on September 5th, 2010 02:16 am (UTC)
Azula would probably end up destroying the door if that happens.

Because that's where Momoko found difficult to defend, Azula focused on the feet. On the legs, on her stomach.

The trick here was simple. If Momoko didn't want to get wet she should not be where the balloons are. Simple. That is, if she could be faster than Azula's very well timed and precise balloon throwing.
Momoko Akatsutsumi: huh whatheromaniac on September 5th, 2010 02:26 am (UTC)
Which would not make for a happy roommate, so yeah, probably no more skipping.

If Momoko transformed, she would totally know how to not be where the balloons were! But she was trying to learn to do this as Momoko, not Blossom. So she had to figure out something.

Meanwhile, she just tried to sidestep faster. It only worked a little.

"Five year old Firebenders are faster than you Momoko." This was followed by a quick succession of face, shoulder and stomach aimed water balloons.
Momoko Akatsutsumi: rememberingheromaniac on September 5th, 2010 03:01 am (UTC)
Oh sure! Remind her that there are five-year olds better than her.

"Augh! But I'm not a Firebender!" Momoko was back to shifting and bending and palming away the balloons. She was managing to keep her face dry and only get struck in the occasional shoulder.

"Of course you're not but you are learning our fighting techniques."

And then abruptly, Azula stopped throwing the water balloons.

She didn't believe that it was over, so Momoko didn't come out of the pseudo-form she had fallen into: one leg extended out, the other bearing her weight as she leaned to one extreme side (having just dodged a balloon). Her hands were up and ready to palm any away from her face and chest.

... although she was totally taking advantage of the chance to breathe! A lot!
Princess Azula of the Fire Nation: smiling is still suspiciousazuldragon on September 5th, 2010 03:52 am (UTC)
Azula noted the stance she's fallen into and smirked.

"That stance is what we call the Tiger and Crane. Firebenders use it and sometimes the Earthbenders does too. And, that ends our lesson for today."
Momoko Akatsutsumi: eh-heh nudgeheromaniac on September 5th, 2010 04:13 am (UTC)
"Really done?" Momoko didn't move, but there was hope! "Really really done? Not just, like, done with that barrel, or done with the blue balloons?"
Princess Azula of the Fire Nationazuldragon on September 5th, 2010 04:18 am (UTC)
And then that was when Azula hit Momoko's leg with a water balloon. "Now we're done."
